چکیده
techniques in use today, either in experimental or clinical cardiology, which are relatively new and of such importance that a thorough understanding of them is essential to the cardiologist." As an essay, the book warrants praise for its logical organization and clear development. However, it is doubtful that the cardiologist, or anyone, would gather "a thorough understanding" of modern cardiological investigations from this monograph which dismisses many important techniques with catalogue-like brevity. On the contrary, the usefulness of the book would seem to lie in the area of the non-cardiologist who wants an intelligent introduction to the terminology and general scope of cardiovascular studies without a detailed and critical treatise on each of the many methods in use. Although some of the investigations described will quickly become obsolete, the book should be a valuable addition to any general medical library.

Selecting models for capturing tree-size effects on growth–resource relationships
Subject trees included in growth analyses often vary in their initial size, possibly obscuring the effects of growth factors. We compare methods for incorporating size effects into growth models. For four different tree species, red maple (Acer rubrum L.), sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.), American beech (Fagus grandifolia Ehrh.), and red oak (Quercus rubra L.), we compared models of radial ...
متن کاملLong-term monitoring of climatic and nutritional affects on tree growth in interior Alaska1
The comparative analysis of a large set of long-term fertilization and thinning studies in the major forest types of interior Alaska is summarized. Results indicate that nutrient limitations may only occur during the early spring growth period, after which moisture availability is the primary control of tree growth on warm sites. The temperature dynamics of both air and soil set seasonal bounds...
متن کاملImproving tree mortality models by accounting for environmental influences
Tree-ring chronologies have been widely used in studies of tree mortality where variables of recent growth act as an indicator of tree physiological vigour. Comparing recent radial growth of live and dead trees thus allows estimating probabilities of tree mortality. Sampling of mature dead trees usually provides death-year distributions that may span over years or decades. Recent growth of dead...
متن کامل
Méthodes: Une étude cas-témoins a é...
متن کاملA combinatorial theorem on p-power-free words and an application to semigroups
Some combinatorial properties of infinité words having a subword complexity which is linearly upper-bounded are considered. The main resuit is a theorem giving a characterization of infinité words having a linear subword complexity in terms of the number of complétions of the factors which do not contain multiple overlaps. An interesting application of this theorem is that the monoid of the fac...
